Everyone knows the parable of the Good Samaritan, right? It is taken to mean you are judged by your actions, not by your title. That is nice. It is a tidy way to read the story.
However, does everyone know who the Samaritans were? Links here & here. Turns out the Samaritans had much in common with the Israelites, believed to be descended from those who were left behind during exile and married foreigners. Are Muslims today a good stand in for Samaritans? I think they are.
I wonder if this story suggests that the best way to categorize people is not Christian versus Muslim, but those who use their faith to promote love and those who use their faith to promote war?
